The black QuarantaQuattro
This Panerai Submersible PAM1229 replica follows the black version of the QuarantaQuattro, Panerai’s 44mm Submersible that sits between the 42mm and 47mm cases. The dial is black with round lume plots, a double bar at 12 and a single baton at 6. In the white-background render the centre looks lighter; in the live photos the dial is black.
Steel bezel, blue print, rubber strap
Unlike the eSteel models with glossy coloured bezels, the PAM1229 keeps an all-steel bezel, brushed, with engraved 15, 30 and 45 and round pips. Blue appears in three places: the SUBMERSIBLE lettering, the depth line under AUTOMATIC and the small seconds hand. The black rubber strap closes with a brushed Panerai buckle, and the solid steel caseback is engraved with a frogman figure and an edition number.
White and grey alternatives in the same case
The Bianco PAM1226 uses the same steel case with a matte white dial on green rubber. For a gradient dial and a glossy bezel, the grey PAM1288 Grigio Roccia is the closest step. Browse all Submersible watches, or read the Submersible guide for the 42mm and 47mm cases.
How does the PAM1229 differ from the PAM2683?
Both are black with blue lettering. The PAM1229 has a brushed steel bezel with numerals; the PAM2683 has a dark bezel insert with studs and a lume pip at 12.
What does QuarantaQuattro mean?
It is Italian for forty-four, the case diameter in millimetres.
